COAA recently announced the beta testing of two new educational courses. The courses are part of a planned expansion of COAA’s Owner Training Institute (OTI) curriculum. Efforts are underway to expand OTI with more than a dozen courses developed specifically for Owners of capital projects. All new courses will be beta tested and have a “soft launch” in 2013, followed by a full launch of the entire curricula in 2014, which will coincide with COAA’s 20th Anniversary.

The two in-person courses run from one- to two-days long and are led by a three-person team of instructors, including an Owner, a designer/engineer, and a contractor. Courses are being developed to complement one another and provide Owners with the critical skills needed for their building projects.

These initial OTI courses will be offered immediately prior to COAA’s upcoming 2012 Fall Owners Leadership Conference in Orlando at the Loews Royal Pacific ResortTM at Universal Orlando ResortTM. The 2-day Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) course will be held on October 29th and 30th, and the 1-day Design-Bid-Build (DBB) course will be held on October 30th. The Owners Leadership Conference runs from October 31st to November 2nd. COAA President Ted Argyle, Chief Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Ada County, points out, “As professional construction project Owners, we should be striving to ever improve our performance and the performance of those we mentor and supervise.

COAA’s OTI courses provide valuable help to those new to the industry and assist our experienced leaders in updating their skills and capabilities.” COAA’s OTI courses are created “For Owners, By Owners.” The courses provide in-depth training and continuous learning opportunities. The delivery method of the courses will initially be in-person/instructor-led, with alternative delivery formats, such as online offerings, being evaluated for the future. Additional courses to be beta tested include:
